Peek At Our Week February 25 – March 1, 2019

Religion Objectives:  

Seeds – Jesus wants us to be kind. The children will recognize what it means to be kind and that Jesus wants us to be kind.  The children will recognize activities they do with friends and learn movements to the Lord’s Prayer. 

God Made Living Things – God Made Birds. The children will know that God made the birds and God cares for all creation.  The children will believe that God takes care of them. 

Science Objectives: 

Oobleck – sink or float? We will investigate and describe sources of heat. Describe Earth materials and properties. Describe, observe and investigate properties and characteristics of common objects. Compare and contrast real animals to artwork.  Observe and describe what happens during changes in the sky.   

Cat in the Hat Magic Dough – We will explore what happens when you mix flour, baby oil and glitter. What can you do with this magical mixture?

Social Studies: 

Oh the places we can go!  Recognize the names for the days of the week. 

Literacy Objectives: 

We will be enjoying many Dr. Seuss books this week!  Using a QR code reader to listen to our favorite Dr. Seuss books!  Creating our Five Little Valentines activity and poem.  Rhyming with Dr. Seuss.  Recognizing Dr. Seuss words and recording them correctly. Chopping words into phonemes. Creating new words while changing the initial sound. Creating multisyllabic words. Deleting syllables from a word to create a new word. Letter of the Week Qq. 

Math Objectives: 

Counting 1 – 20. Non-standard measurement with feet. Graphing wacky socks.  Matching with our memory Suessical characters.  Patterning. 

Afternoon Enrichment: 

Monday: We will continue our lessons on China.  Learning numbers 1- 10 and writing our age in Chinese numbers. Chopstick painting.

Tuesday: IXL exploration and app of choice. 

Wednesday: Afternoon Gym with Mrs. Beyer’s class.  Number 19 exploration – forming the number correctly, the letters in its name, identifying the number 19 and counting to 19.  Dr. Suess Write the Room.

Thursday: Author study with Dr. Seuss with My Many Colored Days. We will explore colors, feelings and how colors can represent feelings. We will use language to identify and compare feelings.  We will journal about a color and how it makes us feel.  We will also explore colors and feelings in a watercolor art project. 

Friday:  STEAM challenge – Seussical Landscapes!  The children will create their own landscapes just like in the stories of Dr. Seuss.  Music class with Mr. Showstead.
