                           BACK TO SCHOOL TUESDAY APRIL 2ND

Religion:  Special Lesson:  Easter:  The children will explain that Easter is a feast of life.  The children will express an understanding that God’s Son Jesus, gives us new life.  The children will thank God the Father for life.  **WEAR RED ON MARCH 19TH FOR ST. JOSEPH DAY* **WE WILL BE ATTENDING MASS WITH OUR PRAYER BUDDIES ON TUESDAY**

Language/Literacy:  Lesson Overview weeks 19-27:  Week 26:  Students will recognize and produce words that rhyme.  Students will hear words that begin with the same sound and generate words that begin with a specific sound.  Students will learn to blend two phonemes into a spoken word.  Students will continue to practice phoneme isolation with final and medial (Vowel) phonemes in spoken words.  Students will learn to segment a spoken word into two phonemes.  Students will manipulate the initial phoneme in a spoken word with adding and deleting activities.  A new skill will be introduced:  Students will learn to substitute the initial phoneme in a spoken word.  Understand the meaning of words.  Engage in pre-reading and reading activities with concepts of print and tracking.  Answer questions about a book.  Retell a story.  Compare and contrast  animals.  Focus letter of the weekL  Tt.  Bring a T item from home.

Math:  Create, extend and recognize patterns using sounds. Colors and people.  Pattern and puzzle making.  Number recognition 1-10.  

Teddy Bear Tea:  We will journal about our special friends.  Using our furry friends we will measure and compare the different sizes of the bears.  Graphing and analyzing the data.  Estimation using bear counters.  Recording descriptive  information about our furry friends.  Using language to describe. Making a Venn diagram of the information we learn about bears.\

Afternoon Enrichment:

Monday: "Our World and Beyond":  We will travel to England.  The children will explore the country and culture.  The children will learn that while we speak the same language, there are many items which have different meanings.The children will listen to the story Art and Culture:  Big Ben Shapes by Logan Avery.  Big Ben is a fascinating monument in London.  It has many shapes.  We will look for shapes on Big Ben and the children will build their own structures using blocks.  We will also focus on the clock learning what the hands represent.

Tuesday:  We will continue our study of the Letter Tt..  The children will go on a letter T hunt around the room.  We will play a matching game with upper and lower case letters.

Wednesday:  Number 19.  How to write it as a symbol, in words and tally marks.  Counting from 0-20.  Collecting 19 items and using 1:1 correspondence counting them.   More and less.

Thursday:  “Bushel of Books”: We will read Make Way For Ducklings by:  Robert McCloskey.  We will explore why water falls off a ducks back.  The children will retell and sequence the events in the story.

Friday:   STEM:  The boys and girls will hear the story of Jack and the Beanstalk.  How many words can we think of for BIG?  Can we build our own beanstalk using paper towel rolls?  How tall can we make it?  The children will also participate in planting bean seed for or classroom.They will observe how long it takes to sprout and grow.  Can we grow a beanstalk as tall as Jack’s??????
